Best is a relative term. The best fashion school for others may not be the best place for you so ignore the ads that claim to have the top fashion school. Instead you will need to compare various schools for fashion design in order to actually find the one that most closely fits your goals and needs. In comparing schools, however, you are going to need some criterion to evaluate. Here are a few factors to consider.
1) Cost- many people believe that the best fashion schools have to be the most expensive ones. The thinking goes that if education is expensive, it must be of high quality. Studying fashion is not cheap but it does not need to be ridiculously expensive. Some schools position themselves as the best by charging outrageous fees to those “lucky” students they accept.
Just be aware that cost is not the best standard to use in judging quality.
2) Location –Some think that the top fashion schools are all in Europe. There is some truth in this view based on the fact that fashion centers such as Paris and Milan tend to be more cutting edge in their education. 3) Prestige – Some people believe that the best fashion marketing schools are the most well-known ones because they have been featured in magazines or on television. The best fashion schools tend to keep quiet about their greatness and rely on the testimonials of others in the fashion industry. You will learn the most about your potential school not from the magazines but through the testimonials of their students.
4) Instructors – Do you want to attend a school with famous personalities as instructors? This is a selling point. Designers in the fashion industry do not get famous unless they produce top quality work, and they also tend to have good connections. The drawback is that people in the fashion industry are famously competing against each other and this can be very distracting and may hinder the learning process. You will probably also pay a good bit more money for “name” instructors.
5) The alumni – Another belief is that the best fashion schools are the ones that count successful personalities among their alumni. The thinking is that the past will be the predictor of the future. For this reason, students often seek out the schools of well known fashion designers in the hopes that this will give them a leg up on the competition.
Before you accept this criteria as a good reason to judge the best fashion schools, please remember that schooling is only a small portion of a person’s success. It is an important part, of that you can be sure, so do your research and choose wisely. However, you need to keep in mind that greatness always lies within yourself and you can create your dreams no matter which of the top fashion design schools you attend
